Chimney
Rock, located in Rutherford County North Carolina, has
become a very popular attraction for visitors from all
over. Chimney Rock will complete any trip to the
mountains of Western North Carolina, with its
breathtaking views in the unique Hickory Nut Gorge.
Chimney Rock is located 25 miles southeast of Asheville
making it very accessible from any point in the North
Carolina Mountains. At Chimney Rock Park you can enjoy
the amazing 75-mile views, hiking trails, rock climbing,
Hickory Nut Falls and much more. There are several
points of interest that are must sees when visiting
Chimney Rock to achieve the full mountain
experience.
The Chimney is often referred to as the main point of
interest at Chimney Rock Park. Above Hickory Nut Gorge
soaring at 2,280 feet you can climb to the top of this
315-foot monolith located on the edge of the Blue Ridge
Mountains and experience the 75-mile views. The Chimney
is accessible through hiking trails or you can even take
an elevator to the top.
Hickory
Nut Falls is one of the highest waterfalls east of the
Mississippi River and can be accessed through a number
of trails at Chimney Rock Park. Hickory Nut Falls has a
vertical drop of 404 feet. Views of the falls can be
seen from the following trails: Skyline-Cliff Trail
Loop, Hickory Nut Falls trail, Peregrine’s Rest on the
Skyline trail, or Inspiration Point on the Cliff trail.
At an elevation of 2,480 feet is the highest point in
Chimney Rock Park, known as Exclamation Point and it can
be reached by the Skyline trail. Exclamation Point is
200 feet higher than Chimney Rock and is over 1,400
vertical feet from the entrance to the park. This is a
favorite spot for visitors of Chimney Rock Park because of
the beautiful mountain views available from this point.
The Opera Box is another point of interest at Chimney
Rock Park that offers unique views under the majestic
overhang of a rock formation. Located on the Skyline
trail, the Opera Box boasts breathtaking views of Lake
Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The overhang of the rocks
provides you with panoramic views of the sky, water, and
trees. This is a unique view point in Chimney Rock Park,
and a relaxing one as well!
Chimney Rock also offers rock climbing for all levels of
climbers. Beginners can practice their skills in a
controlled environment on the climbing tower. For the
more experienced thrill seekers you may choose a rock
climbing or rappelling adventure with Fox Mountain
Guides, who is the only AMGA Accredited Guide Service in
the Southeast. This is a fun, adventurous and safe way
to enjoy the views from Chimney Rock.
Chimney Rock Park is located on Highway 64/74A in
Chimney Rock, North Carolina. The park is open daily
from 8:30am to 4:30pm and from 8:30am to 5:30am during
daylight savings time. The park is closed on Christmas
Day, Thanksgiving, and New Years. Individual tickets are
$14.00 for adults and $6.00 for children ages 6-15.
Children under 6 are admitted free! Be sure to check out
