Buncombe County Things To Do
You’ll never run out of fun activities in Buncombe County and the surrounding areas of Western North Carolina. This region is known for being a beautiful outdoor playground as well as for its rich history. Whether you enjoy extreme adventures, unwinding at a world class spa, or fun days with your family learning something new, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Buncombe County.

Perhaps the most popular attraction in the area is the Biltmore Estate. The Biltmore Estate is one of the largest attractions in Western North Carolina drawing over a million visitors a year from all over the world, and one of the many reasons why people vacation in Asheville and the lovely mountains of Buncombe County. When you buy real estate in Buncombe County, you’ll be just minutes from the gorgeous manor that was once the largest privately owned home in the United States. Construction was completed on the home in 1895, after beginning just 7 years earlier in 1888. Featuring 250 rooms, the home first opened its doors to the public in 1956 and showcased the home’s Gilded Age architecture and provided a glimpse into what life was like for the prominent Vanderbilt family in the 19th century. In addition to the Vanderbilt’s home, the Biltmore Estate also consists of several gardens, a winery and a state of the art equestrian center.

If you enjoy the architecture of the Biltmore Estate, take a stroll through downtown Asheville and see more of the architecture the city is known for. Places like the Battery Park Hotel, the Jackson Building, Grove Arcade and the Basilica of St. Lawrence are known for their unique architectural features and designs.

In addition to all the great architecture, downtown Asheville also offers residents and visitors a wide variety of shopping, dining, live music and unique boutiques. The diverse and welcoming nature of the city of Asheville has created a wonderful atmosphere the city has become known for. You’ll love strolling through downtown Asheville and enjoying the many fine shops and restaurants, and the Asheville mall offers over 120 specialty stores.

Because Buncombe County and the city of Asheville pride themselves on promoting the arts and being an eclectic city full of diversity, there are several great museums and even more great shows to check out.
